Most locals are familiar with Schrette Insurance Services; after all, Tom Schrette partnered with his parents in the business over forty years ago.
As he would advise his clients about planning, Tom started thinking about a succession plan for the business a few years ago.
That’s when Kyle Iverson came in. Kyle has taken the reins of Schrette Insurance, which has become Iverson & Schrette Insurance Services as of December 2021.
“I met Tom through working within the community and helping people,” says Kyle. “We both have similar philosophies of service above self. It took two years to decide it was the right fit for both of us. It is a big step for us both as well. One of us is winding up and the other winding down.”
Tom explains why Kyle is the right person to step into his role. “Kyle has worked tirelessly for the past two and a half years to fully integrate himself into this practice in every way,” says Tom. “Our ability to work together bringing his younger perspective and my 41 years of experience. Kyle is from Napa and knows many of our clients already. I see him taking the initiative to meet and introduce himself to existing clients he does not yet know and understand each client’s needs. He is a good listener, an ability that helps him match clients with their best possible insurance needs. He is eager to help people resolve issues a client may have with an insurance carrier or coverage questions, as these are common.”
“This is his baby,” says Kyle. “It’s not easy to walk away from a business you have built from the ground up, and I welcome the mentorship. He, of course, still has a lot of connections and I’m still meeting many of our clients. We don’t sell; we listen for what’s best for the people.”
The insurance products offered by the company won’t change.
“We’ll still have plans for individuals, families and small businesses. We offer health, dental, vision, disability and long-term care. For health options, we have PPO, HMO, high-deductible, self-funded and federal premium tax credits. I have a particular interest in specialty Medicare supplement and advantage plans. One area that can be confusing to clients is the Affordable Care Act versus COBRA, but we are experts. Along with traditional plans, we want to analyze and create what’s best for your needs.”
“For small business, we have a Human Resources component that can be invaluable. Terminations and hiring can be challenging, but we’ll guide you along the way.”
They will be modernizing some of the elements that go into the business.
“Clients will be able to log themselves in to their plan, keep track of policy and claims information, compare options and more. Of course, we’re always just a phone call away.”
“The nice part about this business is you become family with the clients. You see them grow their business and family and then retire. It’s all the way through; kids go from kindergarten to college. You’re able to help families for generations.”
Kyle’s family is his wife Tiffany, who is a licensed marriage and family therapist, their four-year-old son and two-year-old daughter. Kyle attended Mt. George Elementary, Silverado Middle and Napa High School. His Bachelor of Arts is in Government from California State University, Sacramento.
An active member of Napa Valley College’s Board of Trustees since 2016, Kyle is past Chair and current vice chair of the organization with Jeff Dodd. He is the first Trustee to serve on the NVC Foundation, the philanthropical non-profit that raises funds to help with NVC student education and success.
He is a former board member of Mentis.
“Something that was instrumental to my life and love of service to the community happened when I was 16 years old and a junior in high school. My dad, Bill Iverson, was in a car accident that broke his neck. From that experience, he started the Napa Spinal Cord Injury Network in 2002. I got involved in fundraising for the Network, including the car. raffle downtown.”
“From that accident, my dad also became an advocate to have cannabis sales legalized. I put in lots of hours in front of Whole Foods gathering signatures and speaking with local elected officials for that. Years ago, he was on the ‘preferred applicant’ list. Now the City allows recreational sales.”
Prior to a career in the insurance profession, Kyle worked for J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines in sales and marketing. He additionally worked many years in the car business as a reinsurance sales rep, supporting car dealerships in northern California with their aftermarket sales needs and goals.
One small change he has made to Schrette Insurance Services was refurbishing the office décor.
Agent Alan Cash works alongside Tom and Kyle and they write a health insurance column for the Napa Valley Register.
“Kyle, his wife Tiffany, and friends have really spruced up our office,” says Alan. “There is a young energy and excitement, and Kyle has been working hard to get on top of all the different ways health insurance works. He’s helped individuals, families, small groups and seniors with the routine and the complicated. Each one takes a different skill set and he’s mastering it.”
