6th Annual Fall Faire

Mark your calendars to attend and actively participate in the free  6th Annual Fall Faire on Saturday, September 26th from 1-4 pm sponsored by the University of California (UC) Master Gardeners of Napa County. It’s where science meets carnival. The fun will take place in the parking lot of the office buildings a

1710 Soscol Avenue in Napa. Signs and volunteers will help direct you to the event.

As you may or may not know, UC Master Gardeners pride themselves on providing science-based information for home gardeners through many workshops, Library talks, and of course the annual Fall Faire.

Check out the following Education Booths staffed by knowledgeable Napa County Master Gardeners who will be there to provide a meaningful and fun experience:

Information/Help Desk – Entry desk will have MGs on duty to answer general garden questions and provide the Fall Faire site maps.

Healthy Soil, Climate Smart – Learn about how healthy soil retains more water and can sequester carbon to mitigate climate change.

Composting – Traditional ways to produce compost for the garden using compostable food waste and garden waste.

Las Flores Learning Garden – Learn about the four existing and the future gardens at Napa Master Gardeners’ Learning Garden at Las Flores Community Center.

Succulents Q & A – Everything you want and need to know about growing and enjoying succulents. Grab a succulent clipping too!

Bulbs – The beauty and benefits of growing bulbs. Bulbs are inherently drought tolerant. There will be a bulb and rhizome giveaway.

Invasive Species – How to watch out for and identify invasive species.

Monarchs and Pollinators –Learn how you, as home gardeners can help increase the declining numbers of Monarchs and Pollinators due to climate change and pesticide use.

Grow Vegetables All Year – Do you know what plants grow best at what time of year? Test your knowledge of vegetables by answering questions and sorting cool and warm season seeds.

The Rose Garden – Get answers to your questions about roses, learn about winter care, pruning tools, the yearly rose cycle, and the classification of various roses.

Garlands from your Garden – Make a garland and learn how to grow Zinnias.

Sharp Shear Perfection –Life may be dull at times but your gardening tools should always be Sharp! Come by our Booth and learn about the basics of sharpening your garden shears and/or blades.

Backyard Birds – How to attract birds to your yard and the benefits they provide. You will have a chance to make a bird feeder out of a pinecone (while supply lasts).

Please take the time to stop by the booths of community partner organizations to learn more about them and the meaningful work they do: Napa Resource Conservation District (NRCD), Napa Water Conservation, Napa Climate NOW!, City of Napa Recycling, Our Water – Our World, Napa Park Rangers, California Native Plant Society (CNPS) Napa Valley, Napa Valley Bonsai Club, Napa Valley Orchid Society, Napa River Ecology Center, Napa County Beekeepers Association, Friends of the Napa Library, and Napa Sanitation District.

Visit the Info Booth to get a special booklet of questions that your kids can take to the Master Gardener’s education booths to find the answers and get the booklet stamped. Take a stroll along the lineup of creative Scarecrows and vote for your favorite. Have a bite to eat and something to drink from Annie’s Lunchbox Food Truck while you enjoy live music from Big Ranch Rounders. Say “hello” to the ever-popular Audrey II, the life-size talking carnivorous plant, who will invite you to “feed” her with dollars, if you are so inclined. All monies go to support the education effortsof Master Gardeners.

For the second year, in support of our educational programs, Master Gardeners (MGs) will hold a Plant Sale. Many MGs have been propagating an assortment of ornamental and edible plants for fall planting, the best time to add plants to your landscape and garden. Available plants ranging from sage to salvias, as well as house plants, groundcovers, herbs, and every color of geranium you can think of will be part of our inventory for sale. You’ll also discover several varieties of fall vegetables, including increasingly popular oriental varieties, as well as strawberries. Growing and cultural instructions will be displayed for every plant, and, as always, the MGs love to talk to people about their gardens.
