"What's Up With That?"
........................................................................................................................................................................................................

The Marketplace is starting a new series called

"What's Up With That?"

Do you ever wonder about the little odd things you see around the Valley?
Well, we do. So we asked, "What's up with that?"

Please email us your question to: info@napavalleymarketplace.com
and we will select a question to investigate for our next issue.

Up this month...

Question:
What is the strange wooden barricade on 4th Street? (The one you have to go around to continue through the left lane.)

Answer:
Farid Javendel, city of Napa Sr. Traffic Engineer said:

"We allow left turns from both lanes on Fourth Street to northbound Randolph. Without the barrier a vehicle in the left lane on Fourth might try to continue straight and conflict with a vehicle turning left from the right lane. We could have narrowed the next block of Fourth to one lane, but a barricade is much cheaper."

"This seems to be the consensus here. I also learned that barricade has been in place since at least 1977."

Thanks to Barry Martin with the City of Napa for tracking down our answer.
